Sometimes we doubt we can 'do meditation' because our minds are so busy, "I can't stop thinking"! Let me reassure you that mindfulness meditation isn't about stopping our minds from thinking, because that would be impossible! We have thousands of thoughts and feelings every day, and that's perfectly normal and natural. However, mindfulness meditation can help us to slow down the busyness of our minds, and bring a greater sense of peace and tranquility. Still not convinced? In recent years, there's a huge body of research, including neuroscience that supports the benefits of mindfulness: reduced stress, anxiety and blood pressure, helps with chronic pain, improves sleep, concentration and clarity, and higher tolerance and acceptance of difficult emotions so we're less likely to become overwhelmed when life throws those unexpected 'surprises' at us!
Suzanne offers low-cost individual and group mindfulness meditation classes in the insight or 'vipassana' tradition, which means 'to see clearly'. You'll first learn to quieten the busy mind with your preferred 'anchor' of choice. This is something that grounds us in the present moment, e.g. the breath, body sensations, or sounds and then you'll expand your practice with a step-by-step training in mindful attention on breath, body, emotions, thoughts, and awareness. Insight 'vipassana' meditation can also include what's known as heart meditations e.g. Lovingkindness practices, learning forgiveness and compassion for self and others, which can be very cathartic and healing.
In addition to the aforementioned benefits of mindfulness meditation, there is a growing body of evidence, suggesting the benefits of providing mindfulness meditation in the workplace. According to Forbes; improved concentration and focus, which can lead to quicker problem-solving and better decision-making, reduced stress and 'burnout', improved emotional regulation, reduced prejudice and better collaboration with colleagues, resulting in a more understanding and positive working environment. What's not to like? Due to the popularity of flexible, remote and hybrid working in recent years, there has been a concern that colleagues may become less connected to each other, or that creativity may suffer as a result. However, partaking in online mindfulness meditation classes can potentially bring a sense of belongingness to a team of hybrid or remote workers. Research has also shown that mindfulness meditation can increase creativity and innovation in the workplace, with some of the most well-known firms implementing mindfulness meditation programmes in the workplace. Suzanne is happy to tailor bespoke mindfulness meditation classes to suit most workplace budgets, so you can start the journey of improving your employee's psychological wellbeing by reducing stress, absenteeism and improving productivity and peer or employer/employee relationships.
