In 2023, Ireland ranked as the sixth most stressful country in Europe. This is perhaps due to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, cost of living and homelessness crisis. The high level of uncertainty, particularly in recent years, combined with stressors of everyday life; fast-paced, pressurised, technology-driven and unpredictable, it's unsurprising stress is so common. Sometimes it feels like there aren't enough hours in the day. Our personal or work lives pull us in different directions, all at once! When the demands and pressures of life exceeds our coping skills and/or resources we can become overwhelmed, stressed, and/or burnt out. Personal or professional 'burnout' occurs after an excessive and prolonged period of stress. We can become physically, mentally or emotionally drained or exhausted and eventually lose interest, empathy or motivation. Therefore, untreated stress can impact negatively on our physical and psychological wellbeing, work, education/study and relationships with family, friends or partners.
Suzanne can provide you with affordable and practical psychoeducation, skills and support to help you manage stress. Thereby enhancing your psychological wellbeing and reducing your risk of developing 'burnout', anxiety, depression or addiction issues.
According to AWARE’s annual 2023 survey, at least 80% of Irish adults experience anxiety. Anxiety can be a similar to stress, but the difference between the two is stress usually has an identifiable stressor, whereas this isn’t always the case for anxiety. Anxiety is an extremely common emotional/psychological response to fear, with an evolutionary basis, to protect us from harm or danger. However, sometimes we are anxious when there isn’t any identifiable threat to our safety or wellbeing. This can result in us adopting unhelpful behaviours, such as excessive worrying and avoidance behaviours of certain situations. Anxiety can be an intense experience, with physiological symptoms: increased heart rate, sweating, trembling, tightness in chest, feelings of being unable to breathe, and nausea, and psychological symptoms: excessive and persistent worrying, feeling nervous or on edge, unable to relax, having a sense of impending doom (even without identifiable cause).
Suzanne can provide you with affordable and practical psychoeducation, skills, and support to help you manage anxiety. Thereby enhancing your psychological wellbeing and reducing your risk of developing chronic stress, depression, or addiction issues.
